Karnak - Temple of Mut. The southern gate of Karnak, where an avenue of sphinxes lies ruined, leads the visitor through the village of Karnak to the temple of Mut, the consort of Amun, which has been under restoration for some time. The Temple of Mut was built by Amenhotep III. Before the entrance there is a guard post; on the western side of the avenue of sphinxes there is a ruined temple of Amun-Kamutef, a phallic god whose name means "Bull of His Mother", and on the eastern side stood a sanctuary built by Thutmose III and Hatshepsut.
The temple enclosure today is almost deserted and you can see cracked paving slabs, but there are many interesting and beautiful sculptures of the lion-headed goddess Sekhmet.

Near the northern wall of the guard post there was a small temple of Khonsu, son of Amun and Mut. A birth scene remains there, as well as a fragment of an unusual circumcision scene, which can be seen on the northern wall.
South of the temple are the crescent-shaped remains of the sacred lake, now overgrown, and to the west a small temple of Ramesses III, which still has two ruined colossal statues of the king with his queen at the entrance.
From the temple of Mut, if you go west towards Luxor, the central avenue of sphinxes has been restored and is still being excavated.
