The Red Sea - Egypt Holidays

More and more people come to Egypt for treasures other than the most famous ones - the pyramids, the pharaohs and the wonderful year-round weather.

The treasures I am talking about are the coral reefs and fish of the Red Sea. It is one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world, second only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The Red Sea connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean and is 2,350 km long. The land of the pharaohs owns 800 km of the Red Sea coast, from the border with Israel to Sudan.

These coral reefs begin in fairly shallow water, reaching only to the shoulders of an adult. There are many places for diving and snorkelling directly connected to the hotels, so we can enjoy the colourful underwater world right away.

The air and water temperatures mean you can dive here all year round. There is plenty to see - more than 1,200 species of fish, 200 species of coral, dolphins and sea turtles.

Reefs further out are reached by motorboat or luxury yacht. Then we sail out for the whole day and stop at the most beautiful reefs.

Egyptian law protects its resources in the sea; there is an absolute ban on taking even the smallest fragments of coral reef or shells. Anyone who tried to take such treasures would face heavy financial penalties.

Snorkelling is the simplest form of exploring underwater life. All we need is a mask and a tube, and possibly fins. Floating on the surface of the water, with the feeling of hovering in the air, you can admire the world at a shallow depth.

For fans of more extreme underwater thrills, I recommend intro diving - deep diving with an instructor. Anyone over the age of 8 can dive. There is no need to own expensive diving equipment, because there are diving centres at the hotels where you can rent it. It is often worth paying more for a trip and having a guarantee of better-quality equipment, for the sake of our safety. Anyone who decides on deep diving jumps into the water and dives to a depth of 6-8 metres. The whole time we are under the care of an instructor who shows us the most beautiful parts of this wonderful underwater life.
