The Temple of Seti I - lies about 160 km north of Luxor and is one of the most fascinating historic sites in the Nile Valley. The religious significance of the place reaches back to the very beginnings of Egyptian history, when the earliest rulers chose to be buried in the necropolis — a desert at the centre of the cult of Osiris.
The Temple of Seti I is the largest of the surviving temples of Abydos, built of limestone and sandstone blocks in the shape of an L. The courtyard shows battle scenes of Ramesses II. On the remaining walls there are two "wells" or basins used for purification before priestly rituals.
