Dendera and Abydos from Marsa Alam


Dendera is a town located on the right bank of the Nile, about 60 km in Upper Egypt. There is a temple complex and belongs to one of the best preserved in today's ancient temples in Egypt. We will see where the ruins of the Hathor Temple (beautiful hypostyle room), a small chapel raised to the goddess Isis. The greatest treasure discovered in the Hathor Temple was the bas-relief covering the vault of one of the kiosks adjacent to this temple. The sculpture depicting the Zodiac is now in the Louvre Museum.

In turn, Abydos is an ancient city in Upper Egypt, today it is a tiny village on the west side of the Nile. Former cemetery in the times of the pharaohs (the grave of Scorpio I and the hieroglyphic tablet from that time). According to the beliefs of ancient Egyptians in Abydos, Isis buried the remains of her husband killed by Set. Until today, there is a temple (built by Seti, decorated by Ramses II), consisting of 7 chapels devoted to seven gods: Osiris, Isis, Horus, Amon, Path, Re-Harakhta, Set. The walls of the temple are covered with reliefs, which are an invaluable source of information about the rulers of Egypt.
